  • Overview

    This Advanced Practice Provider (PA or APRN) will work with the trauma/critical care surgeon and multidisciplinary team to provide care for trauma, critical care and general surgery patients across the continuum including emergency department, intensive care, progressive care, med-surg, rehab and outpatient clinic. Daily duties include caring for patients upon arrival to the emergency department, assisting with invasive procedures such as endotracheal intubation, or chest tube insertion, surgical operations, and critical care involving mechanical ventilation. The position works closely with multiple disciplines to coordinate the care of the trauma/critical care/general surgery patient throughout the stay.

    Responsibilities & Requirements

    Educational Requirements for PA:

    • Current PA license in the state of Ohio
    • Undergraduate/Graduate training as a PA
    • Holds an Ohio certificate to practice as a PA
    • Certificate to prescribe for prescriptive privileges
    • Certified by the State Medical Board of Ohio
    • Prefer 500 clinical practice hours

    Educational Requirements for APRN-NP:

    • Current APRN-NP license in the state of Ohio
    • Master’s degree in nursing:  acute care nurse practitioner track.
    • Certification as an acute care nurse practitioner by nationally accredited certifying body

    Knowledge and Abilities (both PA and APRN):

     

    Required skills include but are not limited to the following:

    Ability to communicate and relate well with staff, physician(s) and the public

    Must have awareness of patient confidentiality and be able to follow directions well from physician and work autonomously with little direction

    Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships and critical analysis skills.

    Demonstrates ability to multi-task and work under stress

    Maintains competencies and skills of specialty area of practice.

    Demonstrates assessment skills, diagnosis with critical thinking and implementation of a plan of care.

    Professional Role- skill includes clinical reasoning and builds collaborative intra and interprofessional relationships to provide optimal care to patients with complex acute, critical and chronic illness.  Skill of advocating on the behalf of the patient population and the profession through active participation in the health policy process.

    Managing and Negotiating Healthcare Delivery Systems - skill in addressing the development and implementation of system policies affecting services
